4.23. Piston rings - installation1. Before installation of new piston rings it is necessary to check up trailer and lateral backlashes.

22.2 At check of a trailer backlash of a piston ring it should be established perpendicularly to cylinder walls (for this purpose lower a ring deep into the cylinder by means of the piston)

2. Establish top компрессионное a ring in the first cylinder ( 22.2) and lower it in the bottom of the cylinder.

22.3а Measure a trailer backlash of a ring by means of a set щупов

22.3б If the trailer backlash is too small, clamp a file in a vice and grind off the ring ends (moving a ring on a file outside inside)

3. Measure a trailer backlash by means of a set щупов ( 22.3а). If the backlash is too small, get a ring from the cylinder and grind off its ends ( 22.3б). If the backlash is too great, check up, that it did not exceed 0,9 mm.
4. Similarly check up a trailer backlash of other rings.

5. At installation of rings on the piston by the first it is established маслосъемное a ring. It consists of three elements. Establish распорное a ring in a flute ( 22.5а). Then fingers, not using the tool for installation of piston rings, establish bottom and top маслосъемные rings ( 22.5б). Check up, that the top and bottom ring smoothly moved in a flute.

22.6а Компрессионные rings N 1 and 2 have different cross-section sections - do not mix them and establish a mark upwards.

6. Then by means of the tool for installation of piston rings establish the second компрессионное a ring in an average flute on the piston. He is necessary for establishing a mark upwards ( 22.6а and 22.6б).
The note. On engines 1.8L Turbo and 2.0L models Cordia/Tredia the thickness компрессионных rings depends on engine type. Look the following table.
